# indie.claytonhickey.me
A new iteration of my, Clayton Hickey's, personal website with an emphasis on an indie web principles
## What do I want from my website
I don't like reading mass-produced articles because I think the lack of context of who the author is too big to reliably interpret the article for things to remember. I don't think this concern could ever be fully eliminated for more-sensitive topics without the authors writing and publishing independently because there will always be the question of "what did their publisher say"? I want to use my website as an experimental solution to this problem and see if others will be interested in reading and copying. I also want it to be beautiful.
### Enumerated
1. Develop a personal solution for self-publishing
2. See if others are reading
3. See if others are copying
4. Be beautiful
## Relation to current iteration of website
I have a workable solution for self-publishing (goal 1). I don't like that I can't reasonably publish from anything other than my computer though. I think my next iteration should have an "admin" page where I can write as long as I'm authed.
I have a solution to see if other people are reading or copying though email comments (goal 2 and 3). I don't like that no one uses it. I think my next iteration needs to have on-site comments so that there are incentives to comment for feedback to me and conversation for others.
I find my current website ugly (goal 4). I think it's because I haven't experimented enough. I will experiment with more funky colors and layouts in my next iteration.
## Theme
I honestly don't know much about indie web trends. I read a bit about neocities and webrings. I like the idea of the internet being like a city with roads (links/webrings) between places (web pages). I also don't like cars so I think the theme will be a (tourist) city where cars are banned. I also want to make it pixelated to convey a computer-y aesthetic.
